Republicans and the Electoral College
After reading “The real reason we have an Electoral College: to protect slave states”, I want to make a different point about the Electoral College.
It provides an incentive for Democrats (including The Orange One 🍊) to become Republicans and run for President. Some people, like Ronald Reagan, used this and tried to provide a model to follow. Others (you know who) used the Republican Party like an 80’s hair metal band trashing a cheap hotel.
I think this has resulted in the Republican Party moving farther right. Which I don’t think most voters have considered. If I were a Republican, I would want the Electoral College gone due to this specific risk. I would work to see if there are politicians out there that agree and think it’s a good idea.
Also, this risk would flip to the Democrats. This may move them farther left, which would mean more potential voters for the Republican Party.
And honestly, if you see how the party is being used, and don’t like it, just become an independent voter. Like me!
P.S. I found an article that argues that the Republicans have not moved farther right. It’s here: https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2018/05/16/has_the_republican_party_really_moved_to_the_right_137048.html#!
